Signature Flight Support and Aviapartner Executive have opened a new state-of-the-art fixed-base operation at Nice Cote d’Azur airport.

The new facility is a result of the recent completion of the airport’s new general aviation terminal dedicated to private and business aviation.

FBO services were previously housed in the main commercial terminal. It has a modern, elegant decor and the fully air-conditioned facility incorporates a comfortable VIP lounge that is five times larger than its predecessor.

A dedicated pilots’ lounge includes video games and entertainment systems, flatscreen televisions, WSI weather and business centre services. This new FBO complements Signature and Aviapartner’s services that include ground handling, flight planning, crew accommodation co-ordination, crew transport and catering.

Customs and immigration services are also housed in the general aviation terminal.

Signature Flight Support has announced its new customer relationship program, Signature Status, as launched. Signature Status is designed to offer valuable benefits to operators, flight departments and aircraft owners by rewarding members’ loyalty to Signature’s U.S. FBO facilities.

There are three membership tiers: silver, gold and platinum, and every Signature Status™ member will enjoy escalating benefits as their percentage of visits to Signature facilities increases. Member benefits include services such as guaranteed crew cars, preferred ramp parking, priority daytime hangarage, GPU startup discounts, complimentary Hertz #1 Gold membership and Signature QuickTurn services. Enrollment begins immediately and members will start receiving benefits on March 1, 2010.

Since the program is not based on fuel volumes, the size of the aircraft and subsequent uplift of fuel will not have an impact. The program is limited to turbine-powered aircraft flying on IFR flight rules and benefits are available at all Signature-branded facilities in the United States. Any aircraft, regardless of its country of registration is eligible to apply.

Signature Flight Support is looking to expand its network of fixed-base operations across the globe to extend its dominance of this sector of the business aviation services industry.

The 15-year-old company, which is owned by BBA Aviation of the UK, has 102 FBOs in its portfolio – 57 in the USA, 25 in Europe and 19 in South America – which it operates under a joint venture partnership with Brazilian company Lider and one in South Africa.

“Despite the large number of FBOs in our chain this only represents 7% of the global market,” said Signature Flight Support chief executive Michael Scheeringa at the show. “We have barely scratched the surface.”

Although he was tight-lipped about the numbers and destinations of these projected facilities, Scheeringa – who took the helm at Signature less than a year ago after a stint as chief executive of fractional ownership provider Flight Options – said the company would expand the network in “first world cities” through acquisitions, joint ventures and licencing arrangements with local operators.

“We are keen to have a global focus and have conducted research on our customers, competitors and the geopolitical challenges to establish a template of what we are going to build towards over the next 10 years,” Scheeringa said.
